Friends of Civil War
Paulding County, Inc.
Dedicated To The Preservation of Civil War Sites In Paulding County, Georgia
In Honor of The Men Who Fought & Died Here And for Current and Future Generations
Founded as the Friends of Pickett's Mill in the early 1990's, our organization has had since its creation the goal of preserving Civil War history in all of Paulding County. The group was renamed the Friends of Civil War Paulding County, Inc. to better reflect our broader scope of local preservation.
Paulding County is rich in historic sites, whether they be battlefields, hospitals, headquarters, or homes that were historically significant. Although much has been lost to development, many sites of historic value still remain. Members of FOCWPC realize that we should have existed thirty years ago, so the old adage "Better late than never" will have to suffice. However we also realize that development is progress and progress must continue. We have begun to realize that developers are willing to work with us whenever they can. The members of FOCWPC agree that working in unison with other county historic groups such as the Paulding County Historical Society and General William J. Hardee Camp #1397 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will help all three groups to better achieve their mutual goals. We hope that by working synergistically with these groups as well as with local and state politicians, developers, builders, and local citizens, the Friends of Civil War Paulding County will be successful in preserving these hallowed grounds for ours and future generations.
FOCWPC, Inc. meetings are held at the Pickett's Mill Group Shelter located north of Hiram, Ga. on Highway 92 on the first Mondays of January, March, May, July, September, and November. Visitors are welcome to attend these meetings and join us in preserving Paulding County's rich Civil War History.
